Mornington Peninsula Shire boosts commitment to prevention of family violence

The Statement of Commitment for the Prevention of Family Violence was endorsed by Council at its meeting on the 24th of November.

The Statement of Commitment to the Prevention of Family Violence outlines that the Shire will enable and promote;

•The Mornington Peninsula Shire community as a safe place and act to eliminate violence in all its forms;

•Relationships between all members of the community are respectful and promote the rights of men, women and children to live free from violence;

•That women, men and children have the opportunity to participate equally in all spheres of public and private life without fear or discrimination.

•Increase awareness of family violence as a key social and health issue

The implementation plan will provide a framework for the Shire to work in partnership with relevant support agencies to assist in the prevention of family violence.

Good Food and Your Good Health - Australian Dietary Guidelines

A healthy diet is fundamental to good health, acknowledges the latest Australian Dietary Guidelines prepared by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) this week. the key recommendations of the guidelines are:

1.Eat a variety of nutritious foods from the 5 key food groups (vegetables, fruit, grains, lean meats and nuts, low-fat dairy) to meet your energy needs;

2.Limit intake of foods containing saturated fat, added salt, added sugars and alcohol ;

3.Encourage and support breastfeeding;

4.Prepare and store food safely.

Dress for Success Christmas Appeal

Dress for Success Christmas Appeal. Your giving can help to empower women to find work and lead a happy and succesful life for themselves and their family. Donate to the "12x12x12 campaign" to help disadvantaged women on the Mornington Peni......nsula - spread the word to 12 of your friends to donate $12 by 12 midnight on 31 December, 2012. The target is raise funds to help at least 100 women next year. Spread the word to your friends. Dress for Success is located in Rosebud and provides an invaluable service to disadvantaged women in the community. The service offers a wholistic approach and encourages women in the areas of interview preparation, resume writing, personal presentation - make up, hair, provision of business clothing, shoes, accessories and mentoring to ensure ongoing success. Thanks for your help towards this worthwhile cause.

Eating for Health - Australian Dietary Guidelines revised

Public Consultation on the draft for the Australian Dietary Guideliness is now closed with the revised "Eat for Health" Australian Dietary Guidelines program to be released in 2013. This will include the release of the Australian Dietary Guidelines, Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and also the revised Infant Feeding Guideliness. In the meantime the draft and reference document are

Congratulations to the local businesses at the Rosebud Plaza (McCombe Street) for receiving their Certificate and Accreditation into the Mornington Peninsula Shire "Best Bites" program. Your certificates can now be displayed proudly at your shop front and your customers will know that you are interested in providing them with optimal service in safe and best practice methods in the areas of:
