International Day of Older Persons 2020
|
Today is - International Day of Older Persons 2020
This year's theme is 'Pandemics: do they change how we address age & ageing?',
“This year has also been recognised as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife”.
International Day of Older Persons 2020 will highlight the role of the health care workforce in contributing to the health of older persons, with special recognition of the nursing profession, and a primary focus on the role of women - who are relatively undervalued and in most cases inadequately compensated.
The 2020 observance will also promote the Decade of Healthy Ageing (2020-2030)”
The Mornington Peninsula has 41,323 (over 30%) people aged 60 years and over which is higher than the state average and it is expected to increase significantly by 2030.
Supporting older persons in our community with services, programs and activities that encourage older people to stay active and connected to their community through participation, maintain independence and continue to live at home is encouraged through the MP Shire.

Because our older population is so active throughout our community the "Positive Ageing Newsletter - Ageing Well On The Mornington Peninsula: Newsletter: is always full of news and updates, read more here: https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au/Community-Services/Seniors/Activities-Programs/Positive-Ageing-Newsletter
In recognition of the higher population aged 60 years, the MP Shire Positive Ageing Strategy 2020-2025 Vision: to create a community that enables all residents to participate, belong and contribute outlines a ‘whole of council’ and ‘whole of community’ approach to ensure people on the Mornington Peninsula are supported to age well and to promote optimal health and wellbeing.
This plan and its strategies is consistently monitored by the Positive Ageing Steering Committee and annual Summits are held to seek community feedback.
