Cr Antonella Celi Delegate Report - Council Meeting - 20 April, 2021
Thank you to Sikh Volunteers Australia
On the 10th April I had the pleasure to attend the Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA) thanksgiving function and receive a Gratitude Award on behalf of the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
The event was a welcoming multicultural and inter-faith experience joined by Local, Federal and State MPs, Pioneer Sikh Members of Victoria, Faith leaders, SVA volunteers, community and service groups, schools and SVA staff members to celebrate the Sikh Volunteers Appreciation Day.
With over 295 volunteers, the SVA are to be acknowledged, thanked and congratulated on the outstanding service they provide to our communities.
During the Bush fires and Covid19 pandemic, Sikh Volunteers Australia mobilised their resources to serve community members facing crisis, homeless and hardship and have delivered 140,100 freshly cooked vegetarian meals directly to the homes of vulnerable people in 41 suburbs across 6 Local Government Areas including to residents on the Mornington Peninsula who received meals from SVA during Covid lockdown.
Thank you to all SVA Volunteers and to the many supporters and donors that contribute to help SVA’s service to our communities and in particular for coming out to the Peninsula to deliver meals to our members of our community.
I also take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our local volunteer and services organisations, Community Support and Information Centres, Community Houses, Interfaith Council of Churches and many others who turn out to support our most vulnerable and those in crisis on the Mornington Peninsula.
